Raja’s Story

A first generation American, Raja was born in Bangalore, India, known as the “Silicon Valley of India.” After graduating from the region’s leading university with a degree in electrical engineering, he moved to Pittsburgh to attend graduate school earning a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA with Honors from Carnegie Mellon.

After graduation, Raja went to work for Lockheed Martin before co-founding Computer Enterprises Inc. (CEI) in the spare bedroom of his Pittsburgh townhouse in 1993. The information technology company is headquartered in the South Hills with some 450 employees.

Raja was elected as Commissioner of the 1st Ward in Mt. Lebanon in November 2007. Raja is the Commission Liaison to the Mt. Lebanon’s Economic Development Council, the Mt. Lebanon Partnership, and the Parking Authority.

In addition to being the President and Chief Executive Officer of CEI, Raja is active in numerous civic and academic initiatives. He is the President of TiE, a non-profit organization that fosters entrepreneurship and the growth and prosperity of our region. He also chairs Pitt’s Computer Science Industry Board and on the board of South Hills Chamber of Commerce.

In April 2008, Raja was awarded the Diamond Award by the Pittsburgh Business Times which recognizes local CEO’s in the Pittsburgh region for effective leadership and their commitment to their employees and clients. In July 2008, Raja won the 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Integrated Technology category for his strong business and leadership skills and his efforts and value he places into the surrounding communities.

Raja and his wife (Dr.) Neeta Raja have two children, Isana (age 6) and Omisa (age 4). In 2004, Raja realized a personal dream - taking the oath to become an American Citizen
